Car warning lights and what they mean.

RED WARNING LIGHTS
Red Warning Lights are serious. You should stop you car as soon as it's safe to do so.

Brake System
Check if your handbrake is applied. If it's not, check the brake fluid level and fill up accordingly. If the brake fluid level is fine, call roadside assistance.

Engine Cooling System
Turn off your engine ASAP. Check the engine coolant level. If it's low, fill it up and restart the engine. Call roadside assistance if the coolant level is fine, or if the light stays on.

Engine Oil Pressure
Turn off the engine ASAP and check the oil level. If it's low, fill it up and restart the engine. Call roadside assistance if the light doesn't go out, or if the oil level is fine.

Power Steering System
Stop the car and turn the engine off. Wait for 30 seconds then restart the engine. If the light goes out, the issue is fixed. If the light stays on, drive to a garage if possible. If you can't, call roadside assistance.

Airbag and Seat Belt System
There is a fault in the airbag or sealt belt system. Drive carefully to an authorised repairer ASAP.

Vehicle Charging System
This means there's a fault in either the alternator or charging system. If the engine starts, drive carefully to an authorised repairer. Only use essential electrical systems as the battery is at risk of draining. If your car doesn't start, call roadside assistance.

Steering Lock
Do not drive the vehicle. Get in touch with an authorised reparier ASAP.

Ignition Switch
There's a fault in the ignition system. Don't turn the engine off as it may not turn back on. Drive to an authorised repairer to have the system checked.

Seat Belt Buckles
This light means the driver or front passenger's seat belts aren't secured. If the seat belts are fastened and the light is still on, contact an authorised repairer.

Doors
Check that all doors are closed properly. If all the doors are fully closed and the light is still on, get in touch with an authortised repairer.

Bonnet
Check that the bonnet of the car is fully closed. If the bonnet is closed and the light is still on, contact an authorised repairer.

Boot Lid
Stop the car and check that the boot lid is fully closed. If the boot is closed and the light remains, contact an authorised repairer.

Recharge AdBlue
This light means you have run out of AdBlue. Your car won't restart if you turn the engine off. Simply fill up the AdBlue then restart the engine.

Front Assist
This light means that the Front Assist system has detected a potential collision. If the light doesn't turn off, speak to an authorised repairer.

Electronic Parking Brake
You are driving with the electronic parking brake on. Pull over ASAP to turn it off. If the light remains on after turning it off, contact an authorised repairer.

YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS
Yellow Warning Lights mean that action is required, and you may need to pull over when it's safe to do so.

Emissions Control Lamp
If it's a permanent light, remove the key for 30 seconds then restart the engine. If the light turns off, the issue is resolved. If the light flashrd and your car is down on power and vibrating, contact roadside assistance. If it's not down on power or vibrating, head to an authorised repairer.

Diesel Particulate Filter
If more than one warning light is on, contact roadside assistance. If only this light is on, drive at least 60Km/hr between 1800-2500rpm for at least 15 minutes until the light goes out (select sport in automatic.) If this doesn't work, take your car to an authorised repairer.

Engine Management Lamp
Petrol engines only. Drive slowly and carefully to an authorised repairer to get your engine checked.

Glow Plus / Engine Management Lamp
Diesel engines only. This light always shows for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on. If this light flashes or shows constantly when the engine is running, there is an engine fault. Carefully drive to an authorised repairer.

Engine Oil Level
Continuously lit: you need to top up the engine oil ASAP. Flashing light: oil level sensor might be faulty. Check oil level and top up if needed. If the light stays on, contact an authorised repairer.

Anti-Lock Brake System
There is a fault in the anti-lock brake system. You can still brake normally but ESP and ABS might not work. Carefully drive to an authorised repairer.

Electronic Stability Programme
Flashing light: ESP or traction control is activated, there is no issue. Continuously lit: the 'ESP off' button may have been pressed. Reset it by restarting the engine. If the light stays on, you can still brake normally. Contact an authorised repairer if it doesn't turn off.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring
Check and adjust the pressure of every tyre to reset the light. If the light stays on, get in touch with an authorised repairer to have the system examined.

Power Steering System
If your battery been discharged, disconnected or the car been jump-started: turn the wheel fully left then fully right then drive at 15-20 km/h. The light should turn off. Contact an authorised repairer to get the system checked.
If the battery hasn't been discharged, disconnected or the car hasn't been jump-started: drive safely to an authorised repairer. If you can't, call roadside assistance.

Brake Pad Monitoring
Your brake pads are worn. Get in touch with an authorised repairer to get them replaced as soon as possible.

Airbag and Seat Belt System Yellow
There's a fault in the airbag or seat belt system. Carefully drive to an authorised repairer to get the system checked.

Automatic Gearbox
There's a gearbox malfunction. This light displays with messages in the driver information system. "Please press brake pedal and select gear again" - if the handbrake is not on, there is no issue. If it is on, contact an authorised rapairer. "Please stop the vehicle and select P" - contact an authorised repairer or roadside help. "Please adapt driving style" & "you can continue driving" - continue driving. "Reverse gear not available" contact authorised repairer.

Air Suspension
There is a fault in the air suspension system that may affect handling, stability and ground clearance. Carefully drive to an authorised repairer.

Adaptive Suspension Dampers
Get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Rear Spoiler
The rear spoiler system has a fault, don't drive over 120km/h. Get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Bulb Monitoring
Check that all exterior bulbs are working. Replace defective bulbs ASAP. If the bulbs are fine, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Brake Lights
Check that the exterior brake lights are working. Replace any defective bulbs. Contact an authorised repairer if the light stays on.

Rain and Light Sensor
There's a fault in the rain and light sensors. Wipers and lights still work manually but not automatically. Get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Headlight Range Control
The headlight range control system has a fault. Speak with an authorised repairer.

Adaptive Light System
The adaptive light system has a fault. Headlights will dip manually but not automatically. Get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Towing Hitch
The towing hitch hasn't been engaged after being retracted or engaged. Retract or extend it again to fix the fault. If the light stays on, contact an authorised repairer.

Convertible Roof
The convertible roof is closing or opening. Once closed or open, the light will go out. If the light stays on, hold the switch until the roof is fully opened or closed again. If the light persists, contact an authorised repairer.

Key Not in Vehicle
For cars with a keyless entry system, this displays when the key isn't inside the car when the engine is on. Bring the key into the car. It's not possible to restart the engine without the key inside the car.

Lane Assist
The Lane Assist system is active but it can't detect road markings. If a "system fault" warning displays, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Press Clutch Pedal
For cars with an automatic transmission: press and hold the brake pedal whilst moving the gear lever out of park.

Windscreen Washer Fluid Level
Your windscreen washer fluid needs to be topped up. The light will turn off once the fluid is refilled.

Rear Fog Lights
The rear fog lamp is turned on.

Low Fuel Level
Your fuel has reached the reserve level. Head directly to a filling station and refuel ASAP. A red arrow beside the low fuel light means you're using reserve fuel. Refuel ASAP. If the light stays on when the tank is full, contact an authorised repairer.

Recharge AdBlue Yellow
You have approx. 1,000 miles of AdBlue left. Refill it ASAP. This warning will flash every 31 miles with an audible tone. If AdBlue is not refilled, this light will turn red and the engine will not restart after the ignition is turned off.

Recharge AdBlue White
You have approx. 1,500 miles left of AdBlue. This light will flash every 62 miles until your range reaches 1,000. Then a yellow light will display with an audible tone every 31 miles. If AdBlue is not refilled, the light turns red and the engine will not restart once it's turned off.

Front Assist
The Front Assist system has been deactivated. You will not be warned about potential collisions so drive carefully. If Front Assist can't be turned back on, contact an authorised repairer.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The Adaptive Cruise Control system is not available. When it's safe to do so, stop and restart the engine. Get out the car and check that the sensor is clear of obstructions (dirt, dust, ice etc.) If there are no obstructions and the light stays on, contact an authorised repairer.

Electronic Stabilisation Programme
Electronic Stabilisation Programme is turned off. ESP and traction control will not intervene when driving so drive carefully. Reactivate by turning off the ignition and restarting the engine. If the light stays on, contact an authorised repairer.

Blind Spot Monitor
This warning light briefly flashes to show it's turned on. If this light stays on, there is something in your blind spot. If it stays on even without an object in your blind spot, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Electronic Parking Brake
The electronic parking brake system has a fault. Stop and turn the engine off when it's safe to do so and contact an authorised repairer.

Passenger Airbag
The front passenger airbag is disabled. Reactivate the airbag to turn off the light. If the light stays on, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Fuel Tank Cap
Your fuel tank cap is not fully secured. Safely pull over and close the cap. If the light stays on, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Water in the Fuel Tank Warning
There's water inside your diesel fuel tank. Slow down and head carefully to an authorised repairer. If this light displays instantly after refilling, turn off the engine and get in touch with an authorised repairer.

GREEN WARNING LIGHTS
Green Warning Lights are information only.

Cruise Control
The cruise control system is activated.

Press Brake Pedal
For cars with an automatic transmission: press and hold the brake pedal whilst moving the gear lever out of park.

Lane Assist
Lane Assist is activated and road markings are detected.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
ACC, Cruise Control & the speed limiter are activated. If this light flashes, you are breaching your set limit on the speed limiter. If the light still flashes after reducing speed, get in touch with an authorised repairer.

Electronic Parking Brake
The Auto Hold system is holding your car still. This can be disabled manually.
